Campeche - the full name is San Francisco de Campeche - is a beautiful harbour town in the state of Campeche and was founded 1540 by the Spanish.
Due to its preservation, it became a UNESCO World Heritage site.
The old city center around the Plaza Principal is full of well maintained and preserved 2-story houses built in the Spanish colonial style. The houses are painted in various shades of colours so that an incredible colourful cityscape arises.
A stroll through the little streets of the neighbourhood of Calle 10 is a relaxing highlight and gives tourists a bit of a Carribean feeling.
