The Pyramid of the Moon is located at the north end of the Calzada de los Muertos. It was constructed around AD 150-200. It is a little smaller than the Pyramid of the Sun. The Pyramid of the Moon is 43 metres high. Its basis is 130 by 156 metres. However, the Pyramid of the Moon is actually built on a higher level than the Pyramid of the Sun. So, its top is almost at the same height as the one from the Pyramid of the Sun.
Researchers have found buried bodies and animals inside the Pyramid of the Moon, suggesting that these were offerings to gods. In front of the Pyramid of the Moon you’ll see the Plaza de la Luna, which is surrounded by 12 temple platforms. In the centre of the square holds an altar - most probably also for offerings. Just recently a tunnel was discovered. The tunnel seems to go from beneath the central square towards the Pyramid of the Moon. The purpose of the tunnel is not yet clear; it has to be further explored.
It is really worth climbing the stairs all the way to the top. You have a wonderful view of Teotihuacan and the big Pyramid of the Sun. You can take wonderful pictures from there.
