Turkey is a transcontinental country. While mainly located in Asia, a small portion of Turkey lies in Europe. Both parts are divided by the Bosphorus. While Ankara is the capital city, Instanbul is the cultural and commercial center and also the largest city of the country. It has a long and rich history and is one of the oldest permanently settled regions in the world. Turkey has 17 UNESCO World Heritage Sites (in 2018). The country has an incredible diversity in terms of fauna (about 80000 animal species) and flora.
